Of special interest are the treasures of the sacred art of Puerto Real such as the carvings of Luisa Roldán, from the XVII century, or the different pieces of Indian origin.
1. CHURCH OF SAN JOSÉ
This building declared BIC, the work of Torcuato Benjumeda, began to be built in 1770 on the initiative of the Hdad de San José del Gremio de los Carpinteros de Ribera, which financed its construction. It is a sample of neoclassical religious architecture with baroque elements such as the frontispiece, of marked Indian taste, and corresponds to the type of church with a three-nave hall, transept dome and crypt under the presbytery. Currently deconsecrated, it houses the San José Cultural Center.
2. PRIORY CHURCH OF SAN SEBASTIÁN
Probably the oldest standing building in the city, it was consecrated in 1592, although there is no reliable proof of the date of the beginning of the works or of the building’s past. It is, in origin, a Renaissance temple with various modifications throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that give the building a harmonious eclecticism and a rich and complementary vision of the feeling of each era. The Catholic Monarchs gave it the title of Priory Church, together with the Cathedrals of Granada and Las Palmas.
3. GREEN CROSS STREET
This is one of the streets that probably best preserves the stately air of the urban center of Puerto Real in the eighteenth century. The magnificent buildings between Amargura and La Plaza streets stand out. It is precisely in this place where the niche containing the green cross that gives its name to the street and that links this urban space with the Inquisition is preserved.
4. CONVENT CHURCH OF LA VICTORIA
Temple founded in the XVII century by the Order of San Francisco de Paula to locate its convent. On its right flank stands the baroque tower of the eighteenth century, square and capital adorned with blue tiles. The stone façade of the façade is in the classicist baroque style. The temple houses three images of great artistic value, the Virgen de la Soledad carved in 1688 by the sculptor Luisa Roldán, a San Francisco de Paula and a Cristo Yacente, attributed to the same sculptor.
5. CHAPEL OF EL GALLINERO
Very close to the Horno Romano de El Gallinero we find this chapel that takes its name from the farm where it was originally built. The chapel is home to the Brotherhood of Ntra. Sra. del Rocío de Puerto Real and in it there is a carving in the image and likeness of the Virgen del Rocío that is found in the village of Almonte (Huelva). The park in which it is located occupies the site of a military battery from the Napoleonic era.
