Las Canteras Park is the green lung of the Bay of Cadiz and the deepest and most magical corner in the heart of Puerto Real.
Good moments last and, when remembered, they unveil experiences and sensations, which are lodged in the deepest part of the heart.
Nature and history, many stories. Like that of the two-million-year-old paleontological sites. Or the sixteenth century, when it was an area of extraction of oyster stone for works in the Bay of Cadiz, as the Priory of San Sebastian, or the Cathedral of Seville. And if we move forward to the 19th century, we will find the stories of Napoleon’s troops and the old Villate Battery.
But above all, the stories of superheroes, of happy afternoons, of children with their families collecting pine nuts from the pine trees, getting lost among the mastic trees and living stories of tales and adventures.
Piñon pine trees, mastic trees, brooms and orchids were planted to create an artificial English-style romantic forest, resembling a natural space. And in its branches, a community of birds such as warblers, goldfinches, greenfinches, chamarices or suines. The elusive common chameleon, which is rarely seen, but surprises every time it shows itself.
Other species of animals are easier to observe, such as the giant ocellated lizard (Timon lepidus), the narrow or Andalusian lizard (Podarcis vaucheri) or the western penduline lizard (Psammodromus jeanneae).
To feel and visit a magical and beautiful place that mixes culture and history, that’s a good time.
